I was not that knowledgeable about our fifth president before I read this book. I knew he was a diplomat and fought in the Revolutionary war. This book provides a brief but concise history of his life, and his death. The end of the book even includes a little information about a recent archaeology review of where he lived in the past. Plus the book provides a pretty decent bibliography so that one could study in depth about the Monroe era.Product details

Very well written account of President Monroe, our 5th president. This account doesn't repeat a lot of the information three or four times like a few other hourly history books. Gives good information in a short format.
Poorly written, unless this is written for the 8th grade level. This book has a condescending tone, geared to the 4th grade level. It reads like a last ditch effort to write an essay in a half hour.
Concise, but interesting biography of seldom mentioned president. Very detailed story of his life and achievements. This has been one of several boks.
I am a Virginia girl of 60+ and Virginia history was drummed into me and all students throughout our school years. However, I must admit to a sad lack of knowledge on this particular man; patriot, Founding Father, international representative, President. This book filled in the empty spots. I am so glad it was written and that I had the good sense to download and read it.
I had a little difficulty getting into it -- lots of 'history set up' unrelated to Monroe himself at the beginning. This book does a wonderful job relaying the effect Monroe had historically and today on American government and honestly, the world. Especially interested in is governing and person beliefs regarding slavery and trying to prevent politics from becoming a 'party-system'. Running a brief 48 pages, this is a good intro to our fifth president.
This was a very well done volume exploring the life of our 5th President who served for 2 terms. This founding Father receives a very fair review of his life from his very early life and how it was shaped and he was actually made a man by the events he was surrounded by and lived through. A true product of his times.
The volumes of this series that cover this chain of our leaders really helps us realize just how our world stance and views were born and grew to what we have now. As always a wonderful overview and glimpse that broadens our minds.
